OK, I'll say it. Bush is a dummy.

I can remember when saying someone was smart, like they were "president" really meant something. Clinton was smart but he outsmarted himself on little, stupid stuff. The first Bush was smart, sort of, but he had no "street smarts" as in understanding people. Reagan was smart enough to get elected and stay elected, but smart in terms of government he wasn't. Up until our Bush, he managed to very nearly make the government "really" broke.

Carter was smart on the technical side, but like the first Bush, he didn't connect with people when he got elected.

But our Bush is not smart. Heck, he wasn't even smart enough to get elected president.

There is no magic to be smart. Look at what we call the legal "profession" and yes, there are some smart ones there, but by and large most of them have others fill out forms for them and look things up. Most just get by with a slight knowledge of the language and that's about it.

But it seems all too clear that our Bush, the one who put us at war while we sitting on a big pile of red ink, just is not a smart man. Anyone who thinks that he speaks and acts for God, just does not have everything working well between the ears.

And thus far, we've lost over 700 and the people of Iraq, a few thousand. All on the word of a dummy.

Think of one smart thing the man has said or one book he mentioned. I can't. But as an American, I sure wish I could.

Women's voices

If you don't know about "women's voice" in New London, you should. It's an arts program just for women, working with women artists, and my much better half, Kathy, has attended these once a year classes since they started three years ago.

The classes are offered at our downtown art center, hygienic Art, one or two days a week for a little over a month. When they're done the gallery opens up for them to show off and just about all of downtown is there for the gala. More important, Kathy and most others I suspect, has discovered something about herself that is truly a wonder to watch and enjoy.

Grand small gifts, one women to another
